PC logoThe Peer Chamber’s Scope of Work:

  • To provide youth an opportunity to give back to the community through volunteer and leadership opportunities
  • To grow partnerships among the business community and USD 320
  • To provide an understanding of a Chamber’s Scope of Work and impact on any given community
  • To encourage youth to engage in their communities, give back and volunteer over the span of a lifetime

WHO & WHEN:

Peer Chamber Advisors:

  • Mary Lonker, WHS Language Arts, 2013-2014 Kansas Regional Teacher of the Year, National Board Certified
  • Jana Lindley, Director of Wamego Technology Center, Board Member of the Wamego Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Wamego Area Chamber of Commerce

STUDENTS:   Juniors & Seniors

MEETING SPACE:  Wamego Technology Center Classroom

MEETING TIMES:  Once monthly, Approx. 40 minutes, Also during volunteering hours

HOW:

  • Peer Chamber Student Expectations
  • Monthly Meetings at WHS feat.: Guest Speakers/Leadership Activities
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Tulip Festival, OZToberFEST, 4th of July
  • Creation of Volunteer Bank for Local Businesses: Volunteering & Interning for Local Businesses
  • Attending Monthly Membership Lunches and Wake Up Wamego as a “Sponsored Student”
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Entrepreneurs, FBLA and other Student Groups

SPONSOR A PEER CHAMBER STUDENT! We would love to share the opportunity with our businesses to host a student at our monthly membership lunches. You would serve as their mentor and contact, helping introduce them to other members, and understand how the Chamber works in the community. Interested? Members pay for the student’s admission fee ($10), and it is that easy. We hope you’ll consider sponsoring a student in the near future!
